The challenges of communication and people management in times of crisis

The crisis caused by the new coronavirus went far beyond the healthcare sector. For companies, new operating formats were imposed in view of safety and social distancing measures. And in this scenario, communication and people management are also undergoing major changes.

In this post we will talk about the challenges of communication and how people management can be positively impacted at this time. After all, with assertive actions your company can engage the team and grow in productivity even in the face of this scenario. See here how to expand endomarketing actions with good practices and technology.

The scenario of communication and people management in the face of Covid-19

One of the major concerns brought by the pandemic is guaranteeing the safety of professionals. After all, a company can only operate and proceed with its deliveries if its teams are safe and able to perform their duties.

Therefore, in the face of the crisis, communication and people management needed to align their horizons. More than communicating with transparency, companies must create alignment and security strategies. In this aspect, a good part of businesses has performed well in the face of the challenge.

A survey by Great Place To Work (GPTW) with more than 72 thousand professionals in the first half of 2020 showed high levels of assertiveness:

For 89% of employees, the care for people and the encouragement of business were favorable during the period. Faced with the statement “my organization took all necessary measures to protect me, my colleagues and our families from the effects of coronavirus”, 97% answered affirmatively.

The attitude of managers also gained positive prominence in the survey. For 94% of professionals, they proved to be open and available to listen to concerns and doubts regarding the current moment.

Another essential issue in communication and people management is transparent information about the effects of the pandemic on companies. Still according to the GPTW study, 97% of the people heard said that leadership keeps them informed about this issue and the company’s actions to overcome this moment.

The challenges of communication and people management

In a process of transformation, corporate communication also demands a new positioning from leadership. The mindset shift, according to GPTW research, is the main focus when talking about improvements in the area.

Digitization is a major concern for greater assertiveness and engagement. According to 34% of HR professionals heard in this survey, creating a digital mindset in leadership was the biggest challenge of the last year. And in 2020, 41% point to digital transformation as the focus of work.

Therefore, among the management challenges at this moment we can mention agile and transparent communication. Technology has a crucial value in this sense. More than that, it is an ally for the dissemination of good care and safety practices.

Good endomarketing work is essential, and Corporate TV is a heavyweight tool of great assistance for this purpose. For example: a multimedia programming, with videos and graphics, can make the dissemination of good practices more effective. Hygiene, use of masks, information about the company’s daily care for the safety of the teams need to be on the agenda.

Well-being, more than being fundamental to professional productivity, is an essential focus to have a consolidated organizational culture. Investing in internal communication and a good endomarketing strategy strengthens the team, engages the team, guarantees transparency in relationships and motivates people, who consequently produce more.

In addition, Digital Mural solutions are more agile and efficient to integrate communication. Different points transmit the same data, which are updated quickly.

Companies like Cia Hering, for example, already rely on this type of technology. To read more content about internal communication, keep an eye on our blog posts.
