The main challenges of the internal marketing strategy

For those who are not yet familiar with it or haven’t heard about this topic in a long time, internal marketing is nothing more than marketing actions aimed at the internal audience of organizations. Therefore, all actions that have as their purpose or consequence the mobilization, motivation, and direction of employees and partners are part of the internal marketing strategy.

But in practice, it is not as easy as it seems. This is because the professionals involved in these actions need to pay attention to several challenges to succeed. Continue reading the post and check out what they are!

Plurality of the internal audience

An effective internal marketing strategy needs to be composed of actions that cover the entire internal audience. Directors, leaders, managers, and base employees—all must be impacted in the right way and at the correct time.

This differentiation is important because the channels and discourse are different for each of these audiences. For example: for directors, information may need to be presented in a richer and more strategic way; whereas for base employees, the same topic can be approached in an illustrative and more superficial manner.

Therefore, it is very important to define and detail the various internal audiences before executing random internal marketing actions.

Objective divergences

Perhaps the most difficult of the challenges is dealing with the diverse interests within companies. Some professionals are working just for money, without motivation for their current profession or position. Others are individualistic. In addition, there are still the organization’s interests in optimizing work and reducing investments in a way that always maximizes profits.

Due to all this complexity, it is so difficult to design internal marketing strategies that reach all audiences. A good way to try to bypass this trap is through the creation of specific actions for each group with similar interests.

Variety of dissemination channels

Another major challenge is adapting the message to various channels. The same content transmitted via email marketing cannot, for example, simply be transferred to Corporate TV (by the way, did you know how efficient Corporate TVs are for internal actions? Check out some success cases here!).

Therefore, professionals responsible for drafting and executing the internal marketing strategy need to have this clear in their minds. Even before adapting messages for each available channel, it is necessary to think analytically and define which channels are adequate and functional for certain communications.

Evaluation of internal marketing actions

Perhaps this is the easiest of the challenges. Although employees may feel fearful of potential retaliation and tend to respond more mildly to evaluations, there are tools and strategies that allow for the anonymity of evaluators.

This allows professionals to be more direct and sincere. But far beyond letting employees complain without professional barriers, it is necessary to know how to properly evaluate the feedback so that the results of the actions are not tainted by issues unrelated to their origin. For example: an employee who is unhappy in their current position can easily rebel and write destructive criticisms in the evaluations of the actions.

Continggent budgets

Another major challenge in developing an internal marketing strategy is the budget, which is usually very limited. This peculiarity demands that the team responsible for internal marketing actions be experienced and insightful to innovate with great creativity and propose economical actions that are just as good as those with large investments.

It is worth noting that these 6 challenges are only the main ones, easily identified in most companies. However, each organization has its particularities and challenges. Comment below about your experiences in defining and executing internal marketing strategies!
