Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, several companies have adopted remote work as an alternative for business continuity. But besides ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, the so-called home office also brings some challenges for companies.
Sílvio Etges, product manager at Teclógica, a technology company that has been operating with a mixed work model since 2015, talks about the challenges and Teclógica’s experience with full-time remote work. Learn more below.

Remote work and mixed models
Teclógica’s experience is also reflected in other businesses and is already considered a new work model. According to the Brazilian Telework and Teleactivity Society, remote work is expected to grow by 30% as a definitive model in Brazilian companies.
Today I would like to share with you Teclógica’s experience with the home office, which started in January 2015 with the product development team.
Where we added some remote collaborators to the on-site team, creating a mixed work model that has lasted until today and is used as a contingency model when necessary. Such as public transport stoppages, when someone needs a little more concentration, and now in the pandemic where everyone is working remotely.
This consolidated a culture in the area and in 2019 we had 97% of implementations happening remotely, meaning 97% of our clients were trained remotely.
Challenges of the remote work model
The 3 main challenges we encountered are: the interaction between on-site and remote employees, which we solved by putting up a TV with a camera showing the remotely connected collaborators with their cameras on as well. Creating a semi-presential experience, and this helped immensely.
The second factor is communication organization, which needs to be adapted, both official and informal. Meetings, events, project check-points, everything with better planning and everyone involved.
And finally, productivity, where we even consider that a remote employee produces as much as, or more than, an on-site employee. The focus is on a profile of very organized people and, of course, the deliverables—what these people deliver in terms of value.
Post-pandemic future, what I could mention: I think we will return to a mixed model and remote work should take on a very large proportion, and continuous improvement and optimizations in these processes will be constant, such as concern over excessive meetings. And technology will always be a great ally for us to improve our performance.
